Introduction

This calculator finds the moment of inertia of a custom shape (built using a combination of simple shapes) using the Parallel Axis Theorem. The moment of inertia is an important design element in structural engineering, particularly for members undergoing bending.

Audience

If you have study or plan to study mechanical, aerospace, civil, or structural engineering, it is highly likely you will have to perform the tedious calculations performed by this utility. After having to do these rather monotonous calculations for 3 semesters in a row, and being frustrated with the lack of options online, I decided to create this calculator. I am sure someone out there could find a use for it!

This software should be capable of running on most devices with a keyboard and mouse, which have a resolution greater than or equal to 1280x720 (720p).
